Device Stage is a new feature introduced in Windows 7. You can interact with external devices in Windows 7 using Device Stage. In this article I have explained about Device Stage feature of Windows 7.


Using Device Stage in Windows 7 for interacting with external devices


Device Stage is a newest feature introduced in Windows 7 operating system. You can interact with external devices using Device Stage in Windows 7 easily. But if you want to use this feature, it is necessary that proper support is to be provided for this feature in the external devices which has to be taken care of by hard ware manufacturers. In this article I will explain what is Device Stage and how to access it and how to use it to interact with hard ware devices.

About Device Stage


Now let us see what is Device Stage. You can access the Device Stage from Devices and Printers in Windows 7. You can interact all external devices connected to your Windows 7 computer using Device Stage. The latest devices have the capability to support this newest feature of Windows 7. It is possible for you to manage all the devices from the Device Stage. You can do anything for the device from here. For example, you can see the device status, you can get information about the device, you can share that device in your network, you can change its settings. etc. You can even trouble shoot your device from Device Stage.

The Device Stage is actually named as 'Devices and Printers' in Windows 7. You can see the shortcut to this from start menu. Look at the screen shot below.

How to use Device Stage in Windows 7


Now it is very easy to check the digital devices like printers, cameras and many more devices in Windows easily. Let us see how to use Device Stage in Windows 7.

  • Go to Start menu and Devices and Printers as shown in the screen shot above.

  • Now you will see a window with nice display of all the devices connected to your Windows 7 computer. See a screen shot below.

  • Once the Devices and Printers windows opens up for the first time, you can see a message "Windows can display enhanced device icons and information from internet". If you click on this message, the devices will get updated with most recent drivers from internet.

  • Once you click on any device, you will be presented with the settings and features of that device which you can change.


  • So the feature of Device Stage is a newer way in Windows 7 where you can interact with an external device connected to your computer. You just need to double click on the icon related to a device. Then you will see a page which gives information and links to various ways in which you can interact with the device.
