This article explains what sync center in Windows 7 is and how can make use of it to synchronize the data between two computers and other devices when the same version of data is located in multiple locations.

What is Windows Sync Center

Synchronization is a process of keeping the same version data in more than one location. Data in all the location will be up to date. In order to do this synchronization we require some software and Windows sync center will help us to keep this synchronization between computers.

Windows Sync center is used to synchronize the data between computers, Mobile phones, music player and many more. It will be used more with a server and client computer synchronization. We can use one or two way synchronization.

One way synchronization is a processes of keeping the data in primary location and it will be synchronized with the secondary location. Two ways synchronization is to transfer the data in both the ways; if the data is updated in one location then it will be automatically synchronized in other locations.

Synchronization will keep the version number for all the files in all the locations and once the version is modified and it will check with the other location version and it will updated automatically in all other version to keep the recent version. Sync center identify the conflicts and it may prompt if multiple version of document is available.

In order to synchronize the drive right click the Network location and select Always available offline. Now sync will happen and it will take more time depends on the number of files and the speed of your connection between the computers.

Once the synchronization is completed then you can access your network files in offline and you can modify the settings of the files in offline. From Control panel you can setup the synchronization using Sync Center

While doing the synchronization with the network files and ensure that you have enough space in your local computer otherwise the synchronization will not be performed correctly. You can see the status, setup and the conflicts of the synchronized files in Sync center.

New feature and enhancements are included in Windows 7 sync center. Windows 7 sync center allows you to encrypt the offline files, allows you to change the allotted disk space for the office files, Sync will identify the slow network connection and allow you to switch to offline (Check the below screenshot).
