The FamilyShield software from OpenDNS works from the router so that each and every computer, mobile phone or anything that connects to internet will not be allowed to access adult and phishing websites. FamilyShield can also be installed in a single computer.

It is very simple to configure a router with FamilyShield software so that adult content can be blocked. It is similar to changing DNS settings. Here I am explaining how to set up FamilyShield in your Windows 7 computer. Please follow the instructions given below:

First click on Start -> Control Panel and select control panel.

Now click on Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center.

Now you have to click on 'Local Area Connections' under 'View your Active Networks'.

Once you click on 'Local Area Connections', the window related to Local area connections opens up. Now click on 'Properties' button at the bottom left of the window.

Windows 7 may prompt you to give administrator password. Provide the password and click on 'OK'

In the list of properties that appear, you need to highlight 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and click on the 'Properties' button.

Now you will see a window of Internet Protocol Version 4 properties window. Now click on the radio button labelled 'Use the following DNS server addresses:' and type in OpenDNS addresses in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields. ( 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123

Now click on 'OK' button and then on 'Close' button. Close the Network and sharing Center window.

That is all. This is how you set up FamilyShield in your computer.
