The RSS is a short form for Rich Site Summary is a simple format for distributing frequently updated content from a website. Most of the news websites distribute their updates in the form of RSS feeds. In this article, I have explained what is an RSS Feed.

What are RSS Feeds

RSS is s a hort form for Really Simple Syndication. This is a form which is normally used by websites and blogs to distgribute their latest information to users. Many news related websites distribute their latest news in the form of RSS Feeds.

The RSS Feeds provide most frequetly updated information which is published in a website. The RSS Feeds are mainly used for blogs and news related websites.
You can also distribute not only news but also digital content like pictures, videos and audios. RSS feeds also can be used for delivering audio content so that you can listen them in your computer. This is known as Podcasting.

An RSS Feed has the same content as webpage but formatted in a different manner. Whenever you subscribe for RSS feed, your internet explorer browser will automatically searches the website for any updates and downloads the new information so that you can see what is new after you visited the website last time.

So how to know if a website offers a feed? It is very simple. When ever you first time view a website, your Internet Explorer browser will search for the feeds. If feeds are available, you can see the feeds button which changes the color and an alert sound will play. If you want to see a feed, click on the feed button in the web page and you will be able to see the feed. If you want to get the updated content automatically, then you need to subscribe to a feed. Once you subscribe for a feed, you wil get the content automatically.
