The
task bar
is one of the highlights of Windows 7. There are lot of improvements in the
Windows 7 task bar
compared to Windows Vista or previous versions of Windows. Here are some of the tips of using the task bar in Windows 7.
The
task bar in Windows 7
has many improvements. The task bar is normally at the bottom of your desktop with the Windows start icon at the left, and the date and time at the right. The new task bar in Windows 7 is more organized and improved so that we can easily play with it. Here are some tips which help normal users to increase their productivity.
Shrink the Windows 7 Task bar
: The size of the
Windows 7 task bar
is of standard size. This may be useful if you are using a monitor with a wide screen. But with a small monitor you will find that the standard
task bar of Windows 7
looks bigger. But it is possible to make it look smaller. Just right-click the empty area in the task bar and choose 'Properties'.
Now the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window will be displayed. You need to check the 'use small icons' option. Then click on OK and that is all. Now you will see a considerable change in the size of the task bar and the icons in it.
Speed up the task bar thumbnail live preview
: If you move the mouse over any running application in
Windows 7 task bar
, it shows the thumbnail preview of the running application. If you move your mouse cursor over the small thumbnail, Windows 7 shows a live preview of the running application and makes all other running applications transparent. You can also adjust the time for this taskbar thumbnail preview.
Launch task bar with key strokes
: It is possible to launch the first 10 applications in your task bar of Windows 7 by pressing the Windows Key + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 keys, corresponding to each program. By pressing the Windows key + 0 will open the 10th program in the task bar of Windows 7.
Navigate through the task bar without without using the mouse
: Do you know that you can navigate through the task bar without using the mouse? Now it is possible to navigate through Windows 7 task bar with the help of key board. The method is very simple. Use the Windows key + T key combination, which will set the task bar as the active screen. Now you can use the left/right arrows to scroll through the different applications which are in task bar.
Rearrange task bar with Drag-n-Drop
: Now it is possible to rearrange the icons in your Windows 7 task bar by simply dragging and dropping the icons. This feature was not available in earlier vesions of task bar.
