How to disable system beep sound in Windows 7

Many of you might have heard system beep sound when you press a wrong key or an error dialog pops up. This articles explains the way to disable the annoying system beep sound in Windows 7.


How to disable system beep sound in Windows 7


Most of you might have noticed that when ever you press a wrong key, or an error dialog pops up, you will be hearing a beep sound. I am sure that after hearing that beep sound for quite some time, you may get annoyed. In this article I am going to show you how to disable this system beep sound in Windows 7 so that it remains silent when ever an error message pops up. There are two ways to disable the system beep sound, one is from Control Panel and other is from Computer management. Let us now see how to disable this annoying system beep sound using the two methods that I described here.

Disabling system beep sound using computer management in Windows 7:


  • First you must right click the Computer icon located on your desktop, or in the Start Menu. Then, select Manage from the drop-down list.
  • Now select 'Device Manager' under 'System Tools'.
  • Now you will see the Computer Management window. Select 'Show hidden devices' in the view menu.
  • You will find the 'Beep' under Non-plug and play drivers. Select the 'Beep' and right click on it and select 'Properties'.

  • Now you will see Beep properties window. select 'Driver' tab and click on 'Stop' button to stop the beep. And also select 'Disable' from the drop down type list to disable the beep from starting.

    Once your Windows 7 system restarts, the system beep is disabled.

    Disabling system beep sound from Control Panel in Windows 7:


  • First goto Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound in Control Panel, and click on Change system sounds link under Sound category.
  • Now find the Default Beep in program events, which is under Windows category. Select 'none' from the dropdown list of sounds and click on OK button. as shown in the screen shot below

    That is all. Now you will not hear the annoying system beep sounds.
