Here I would like to share with you a guide on, How to Fix the 'COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working' Error.
A common bug with Vista is when you receive this error message:
"COM Surrogate has stopped working."
This bug is a great pressure creator, because it can be caused by many different things and it is really difficult to pin point the thing that caused the error. Even when you look at event logs, it can be difficult to find the cause of this problem. Then they came up with a list of measures to try to solve the problem, starting with the easiest to fix the problem and after that go through other measures that might solve the problem. I hope at least one of these helps you repair your computer.
The first thing I would do is restore the system. In essence, restore the system to a saved state before the error, if possible. This will only work if you have System Restore, and if you have a restore point that is set before the error, but if you had this error in one year, you probably will not have a restore point that will determine the issue. If none of the above is true, skip this step.
To make a System Restore in Vista, follow these steps:
1 - Start
2 - Click on All Programs
3 - Click on Accessories
4 - Click on System Tools
5 - Click on System Restore
6 - Click on Choose a different restore point
7 - Click Show restore points older than 5 days
8 - Choose a restore point that is old enough for you to know that the error does not occur (if the errors have started four days ago to choose a restore point for five days or more.)
Note - System Restore does not affect your files, documents, images, etc. .. so you do not have to worry about.
Once the system is restored to a previous point, then test your computer and see if the error has disappeared. If so, I would say that when you install future programs or tools for each test, ensure that they do not cause the error. Most of the time a program or function is what makes the "COM Surrogate has stopped working" error.
If that does not support or do not restore the system to that point which we need, we must try something else. Another common cause of this is the dllhost.exe blocked by DEP (protection of the date of execution) of Vista. We can enter and make an exception to that file, there are security risks involved in this field, however. So do it at your own risk. Though, it did not fixed my mistake, but others have reported that it worked for them.
To add dllhost.exe to ignore (DEP) to the list follow these steps:
1 - Start
2 - Click Control Panel
3 - Click on the System
4 - Click on Advanced System Settings (in the upper left corner)
5 - Click on the Advanced tab
6 - Click on the Settings button (under construction)
7 - Click on Data Execution Prevention
8 - Click the radio button that says "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"
9 - Click on the Add button
10 - Go to the dllhost.exe usually found here - (C: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ dllhost.exe)
11 - Click OK to close the window
12 - Click OK to close the window
13 - Now, try to see if the problem has disappeared
If the problem disappears, then if there are still some other things we can do to solve the problem.
Note - If you change the DEP for all programs that may add other programs to allow a way that does the above steps for all programs that have problems, only a change of pace between 10 and whatever the executable is the program you want to allow.
While if the other solutions do not work, then you probably have one of the following products.
Nero
Windows Media Player
DivX
Other packages Codec
(All the programs recently installed)
Now I know these are probably considered essential for you, then first try to update all of them and see if that solves the problem.
If the update does not fix the error, then you must remove and find an alternative or live without them if the errors stop coming up. So, whether a program is causing the problem, uninstall them one at a time, reboot and test. If the error has disappeared, then you know what caused that error.
To uninstall a program, follow these steps:
Start
Click Control Panel
Click Programs and Features
Click on the program to uninstall
Uninstall
Run the uninstall
Reboot
Test
If it fixes the issue you are done, if it doesn't then you can move on to the next program. I don't suggest reinstalling any of the programs until you have uninstalled the others and verified the problem is fixed. Then install the programs that you didn't fix the problem.
