Reinstall Windows XP Without Loosing data, one way of reinstalling XP without actually corrupting the valuable data stored in the disk is explained here

Solution 1:

If you have the recovery CD,Load up your recovery CD.

you should be able to go to the dos prompt, You can
Browse through and look for a folder named i386 if you can see that folder Copy the whole folder, to your c:\ or the drive where you previously installed the Operating system.You need to make onething sure, you copied the folder rather than the contents of the folder. Make yourself a boot floppy or a boot CD it is very easy, you can find out how to do that just google it. Enter the i386 folder from dos, and type winnt.exeThis will start the install of windows blue screen. Simply overwrite the windows you have now and all your data will be saved and you will have fresh new fast windows.

This can also be done with the help of may available tools. Hope the soln is useful to you
