Learn how to add an email account in outlook. In this article I will tell how to do it.


How to add an email account in Outlook

Before adding an account you will need to following information.

1) Is the account that you adding is Pop3 or IMAP?
2) What is server name for both incoming and outgoing?
3) What is password for the account?

The incoming and outgoing server name can be gathered from the respective ISP provider.

How to add an email account in Outlook

  • Open Outlook.
  • Access the Email Account Settings dialog. Select "File," then "Data File Management." Choose the "E-mail" tab.
  • Create a new email account. Select "New," then "Next."
  • Check "Manually configure server settings or additional server types." Click "Next." Keep the default "Internet Email" selected and then click "Next."
  • Enter email settings. Type the name that you want to show up in a recipient's email client in the field "Your Name." Enter the email address provided by your ISP into the field "E-mail Address."
  • Default setting of "POP3" in the "Account Type" dropdown list, and then type the incoming and outgoing server information provided by your ISP into the respective fields.
  • Enter your login information in "User Name" and "Password" fields, and make sure "Remember Password" is checked to avoid the need to enter the password each time you send and receive email.
  • Configure server settings. Select "More Settings" and make any desired changes on the "General" tab. The defaults are typically adequate.
  • Select the "Outgoing Server" tab, and unless your ISP has provided different instructions, check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." In most cases, select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server."
  • Select the "Advanced" tab, and make any changes in the "Server Port Numbers" section as indicated by your ISP. Under "Delivery," check "Leave a copy of message on server" if you do not want email deleted off the email server once downloaded to your email client. When finished, click "OK."
  • Click on Test your configuration. Select "Test Account Settings" to ensure that emails can be sent and received through the newly configured email account.
  • Any errors then you will need to check with the setting or information provided by your ISP
  • When finished, click "Next," then "Finish." Click "Close" to exit the "Account Settings" dialog.


  • Here you go a new email account is setup in outlook.
