'Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool' launched by Microsoft is used to create a bootable USB/DVD drive by creating a copy of Windows 7 ISO file.


Microsoft has officially launched a utility 'Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool' to create Windows 7 bootable USB/DVD.

Using a USB bootable drive you can easily install windows 7 in any machine from USB/DVD and also when you don't have access to DVD drive.

Creating a bootable USB drive has a lot more advantages like
• installation on netbook
• installation is faster
• installation files are protected from wear and tear

System Requirements
• Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
• Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
• 50MB of free space on your hard drive
• DVD-R drive or 4GB removable USB flash drive (formatted)
• Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or higher

To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the Windows 7 ISO file (An ISO file combines all the Windows 7 installation files into a single uncompressed file) and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. The bootable drive created using this tool, allows you to install Windows 7 without having to first run an existing operating system on your machine i.e. If you change the boot order of drives in your machine's BIOS, you can run the Windows 7 installation directly from your USB/DVD when you turn on your computer.

Create bootable USB/DVD drive for Windows 7
1. Once you have downloaded the tool, select it from Start>>All Prograns>>Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool
2. In the text box for Source File, using Browse button provide the location of your Windows 7 ISO file and click Next.
3. Select USB Device for creating a bootable USB drive or select DVD for creating a bootable DVD drive
4. Depending on the device you selected to make a copy to, select appropriate USB/DVD drive and click Begin Copying
5. Click Erase USB device, if you are prompted to erase all contents in your device
6. A message Bootable USB device created successfully will be displayed once your copy of Windows 7 ISO file is created.
