Windows Defender has new features that include:

A process monitoring system which is new in Windows 7 will monitor the activity of the operating system and identifies the unwanted software's, spyware, malicious software's.

Now Windows Defender can be scheduled to scan on regularly with custom alert levels and even you can set actions against the detected spyware or malicious code during the scan.

To improve performance of the scan the windows system files are not scanned which can be identofoed by the file system cache.

Windows Defender is now integrated with Windows Action Center to minimize the icons in the notification area of Windows task bar. All of the Windows Defender notifications can be viewed in Windows Action Center.

New Privacy options is now integrated with UAC, so now it requires administrator privilege to view the history. Standard users require administrator credentials to view the scan history.

During scan we can take action against the detected files instead of waiting for the scan to complete. Individual files/items can also be viewed and deleted
