Setting up a wireless network computer running on Windows 7
The following instructions are used to set up your wireless network in your home system.

The following steps are used to setup the wireless network in your system.
# Select your wireless tools
To set up wireless network in your home system, you need following devices. To set up wireless network three different wireless networking technologies are available: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g.
802.11g has the best performance and is compatible with all systems.
Requirements:
• Internet connection
• Wireless router( or Wi-Fi Router)
• A PC with built-in wireless networking capability or a wireless network adapter
About wireless router:
The wireless router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast.
About wireless network adapter:
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. All newer computer or laptop comes with built in wireless capabilities. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to buy an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. You need one adapter for every computer on your network.
# Attach your wireless router:
First, find your internet cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it and turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your internet cable modem or DSL modem. Your modem should continue connected directly to the Internet.
Then, after you have setup everything, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will transmit connections via your modem to the Internet.
# Configure your wireless router:
Your wireless router should come with the network cable; use this cable to connect your computer to one of the any open network ports on your wireless router. Next, turn on your computer. It should automatically connect to your router.
Next, open Internet Explorer or any other browser and type in the address to configure your router. You might be prompted for a password. The address and password will vary depending on what type of router you have, so refer to the instructions came with your router.
If you have Router, For example Name: Netgear the Address is: http://192.168.0.1 the default username: admin, the default password: password.
Complete the default settings.next,you should configure following the three things:
1.SSID-Wireless network name:
This name identifies your network. This name should be unique name.
2.Wireless encryption (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), that protects your wireless network:
Most routers, you need to provide a passphrase that your router uses to generate several keys. Make sure your passphrase is unique (you don't need to memorize it).
3.Your administrative password, that controls your wireless network:
This password should not be a word in the dictionary, and it should be a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. (You need to memorize it).
The steps will vary depending on what type of router you have. After each configuration setting, be sure to click Save Settings. Then, you should disconnect the network cable from your computer.
#Connect your computers to the wireless network:
If your computer does not have built in wireless network support, plug your network adapter into your USB port, and place the antenna on top of your desktop computer, or insert the network adapter into an empty Laptop PC card slot.Windows will automatically detect the new adapter, and may need to insert the CD that came with your adapter. Then follow the instruction in the CD like installing the software.
Now, your computer connected to the internet using wireless network.
Note: The Above instructions apply to all editions of Windows 7.
What is SSID?
SSID is the acronym for Service Set Identifier which is the name of your wireless LAN made up of 32 alphanumeric characters. This service can be set manually through your client network settings. In order to enhance the network security system, some wireless access points will automatically disable this feature.
What is WEP?
WEP is a short term for Wired Equivalent Privacy which is a system of data encryption used in a wireless network in order to allow authorization control for a 802.11 wireless local area network.
