In this resource I will give information about proxy servers.

Proxy servers are also known as proxies .They are used by home networks, corporate intranets and internet service providers.

Features of Proxy Servers

There are three main functions of Proxy servers:
1.Firewalling and filtering
2.Connection sharing
3.Caching

Proxy Servers, Firewalling and Filtering

Proxy firewalls are difficult to maintain in comparison to normal firewalls, as they require separate installation of each application like HTTP, SMTP, or SOCKS. Proxy servers operate at layer 7 of the OSI model , which gives them better filtering capability than ordinary routers.

Connection Sharing with Proxy Servers

There are many software available in the market for Connection Sharing with Proxy Servers. Proxy servers are more economical to use in medium- and large-sized networks.

Proxy Servers and Caching

The caching function of proxy server is useful in following ways -
1.It can increase scalability.
2.It can improve response time.
3.It also increase availability of a website.
