What is phishing
Phishing refers to the use of internet for getting the personal details of a person like passwords, credit card numbers etc.
How to recognize a phishing scam
Now let us come to how to recognize a phishing scam.
Phishing scam will ask for personal information
You will get a mail from a fraud person claiming to be a bank or a popular website like ebay. He will ask you for personal information with an excuse that it is required for some registration process. Remember that any bank or popular website will never send you a mail asking your private information.
Misspelled words in the site's URL address
One of the technique used commonly by spammers is that they misspell the name of website like www.sbii.com or www.orcut.com
How to avoid phishing
Be careful – You should be very careful using your email. Do not pay attention to emails like we need your password for registration, give your userid for confirmation etc.
Use firefox
Firefox has advanced features which detects phishing attempts and thus saves you from phishing.
