By default, Windows XP is configured to restart on error. To stop unwanted reboots follow the steps given below.
1) Go into Start, then Control Panel then Performance and maintenance and finally System (or by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting properties)
2) Click on the tab "Advanced"
3) Click on Settings in the Startup and Recovery
4) Uncheck "Automatically restart"
Open the System log of Event Viewer
It is possible to read or error messages generated by the system through the Event Viewer. To access it:
1) open the Control Panel, then Administrative Tools.
2) Double-click Computer Management
3) Open the Viewer events (section System Tools) and read the error messages.
Then simply do a search on Google with the words and the error codes most relevant error message to find people who had the same problem, and possibly the answer!
