Spamming may be defined as the act of sending unsolicited and most of the times commercial e-mail to a large number of email addresses. It also includes instant messaging spam, search engine spam, mobile messaging spam and blog spamming. Spammers have developed a number of new techniques for spamming.

How spammers do spamming

First of all let me explain E-mail spam. It is the most common form of spamming found on the internet.In E-mail spamming the spammer sends bulk mails to a large number of E-mail addresses. A commercial email is considered to be a Spam if it is send without the consent of the recipient. Now an important question is how these spammers get your email addresses. One of the major sources in my opinion is through forwarded mails .Another very common way to obtain an E-mail address is to use a spider or a bot to crawl the web and collect web mails. You can however save your E-mail id by using at in the place of @ in your email address that you provide on internet. Thus these spambots are also major contributors to email spams. Moreover some spammers are smart enough to make e-mail viruses that change an unprotected PC into a zombie computer. By doing this they are able to send large number of emails without being tracked down by anti spammers.
There are very strict regulations to deal with spam , even then spammers keep finding new ways to cheat others and continue spamming. One of the ways they adopt is spoofing. In this technique they make a spam mail look like a common mail. Spammers also adopt various techniques to pass the filter settings is changing the spelling of filtered words a little bit.

How to prevent yourself from spam

The best method I can suggest is to be very cautious while giving your email address on the internet. Secondly do not respond to forwarded mails, they may leak it to spammers. Moreover if you are being frequently troubled by a spammer it is better to contact cyber police.
