In this article, I will explain what is Disk Cleanup and how to use Disk Cleanup in Windows XP.


What is Disk Cleanup in Windows XP ?


Disk Cleanup tools in windows XP helps you to keep your hard disk free from useless files. It clears all the unnecessary files from your hard disk. This improves the performance of your computer.

You can choose some or all files which you want to delete from your computer. You can choose the following option from the disk cleanup to delete the files.

1) Remove temporary Internet files.
2) Remove downloaded program files.
3) Empty the Recycle Bin.
4) Remove Windows temporary files.
5) Remove optional Windows components that you are not using.
6) Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

How to use Disk Cleanup in Windows XP ?


In Windows XP you can use disk cleanup in two ways:-

1) Though Command Prompt.



Click on START

Then click on RUN

Then type the following command cleanmgr and then click OK.

Now See the Step 2 below


2) Through the Program files.


{1} Click on START, then click on ALL PROGRAMS, then click on Accessories, then Click on System Tools, then click on Disk Cleanup. See the image below.

{2} Now, select the drive which you want to cleanup. see the image below.

{3} After selecting the particular drive. It will optimize the drive for the unnecessary files from drive. See the image below.

{4} Now select the option from the list of the files which you want to delete from your hard disk. see the image below. After selection the option from the list. Click on OK.

{5} That's it all the unnecessary files are deleted from the drive of your hard disk. Now check out the space of that particular drive in your hard disk. The free space have been increased.

Good Article, you can also use the MORE OPTIONS tab and clean the Old System Restore points, by which we can get the space to our hard disks and it also helps in cleaning the viruses which are stored on the restore points.

We must clean our disks once in a week thus our system performs nicely...!!
We should also run Disk Defragmentor once in a week Which you can see just below the Disk cleaner tab.
