History of Netscape

In this resource I will discuss the History of Netscape.

Netscape was launched in collaboration between Jim Clark, the owner of Silicon graphics and Marc Andereessen.It was released in 1994.
Netscape became very successful browser in a very short time after its release. The enhancements and improvements in Netscape were much better than those in the other browsers available at that time. In 1995 about 80 % of internet users used Netscape as the website browser. However with the release of internet explorer in the same year it started facing a lot of competition too. Another important factor was that Netscape was not free at that time while Internet Explorer was free.

In March 1996 Netscape 2 was launched in the market. It was free for students and teachers to promote the software. Netscape 3 came in the market in August 1996 .In the same year Internet Explorer 3.0 was also released. Till that time there was dominance of Netscape in the market.In June 1997 Netscape 4 came into the market .In the same year Internet Explorer 4 was also released in October 1994.

Later on the dominance of Netscape ended with the increasing popularity of Internet Explorer that came free with the windows which was used by most of the computer users.
