Here are few simple tips to follow to keep your laptop secure

The world around has become very insecure. Robbery, thefts, murders and other such crimes have increased to the greatest extent. In earlier days thefts and robberies were done due to poverty. Bit today luxury is invoking these thoughts in the mind of the people. Completely bringing them to an extinct is highly impossible but why not be alert and try to avoid being victims of such crimes.

Getting confused why I am talking about all this stuff. I will clarify. First let me pose a question. How many of you have heard or have been a victim of your laptop being stolen. The answer would be yes from most of the people. I myself have heard people saying that they are not sure how their laptop was stolen. We come to hear a lot of reasons for that. I just kept it in so and so place for a while in my absence and by the time I returned it was missing and hundreds of others which seem to be really silly.

Laptop being stolen is not a loss just financially, it also exposes to the risk of confidential personal/company information to be stolen which can be highly misused. So, I am writing this article just to let people know that by following simple tips you can be saved from a great loss.

Try to follow these simple tips to keep your laptop more secure when you are in public places or in your travel.

Always carry your laptop with you

Always take your laptop on the plane or train rather then checking it with your luggage. If you are traveling by car and do not have any work, keep your laptop secure in a suitcase or bag rather than keeping it open in the seats.

Laptop bags to be avoided

People around will easily come to know that you are carrying a laptop with you if you carry it in a laptop bag. This gives a chance of you being watched more closely for a chance to steal your laptop. So, try to use a briefcase or a general bag to carry it.

Keep your passwords secure

Avoid noting your passwords in the carry case of your laptop.Keeping your password with your laptop is like keeping the keys in the car. Though your laptop might be stolen it would not be possible to get access to your sensitive information if the passwords are not placed in accessible places for the person who have stolen it.

Make a habit to encrypt the sensitive data

Even if the thief gets access to your system by cracking the password the nest layer of protection would be data encryption. Systems hosting Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 you can choose to encrypt files and folders. As a result people would not be able to access the information until and unless they decrypt it.

Never allow your laptop to go out of sight

When you go through any security check do not lose sight of your laptop. Also if you are going to malls for shopping do not leave your laptop near the baggage counter. Inform the security and take your laptop with you.

Use a Laptop security device/lock

There might be situations when you need to leave your laptop in a room or at your desk and move out for lunch etc. In such situations use a laptop security cable to securely attach it to a heavy chair or table or to the desk itself. tracing programs like ComputracePlus are available which will let you know the location from which a laptop is being accessed.

Try to make a habit of following these simple things and you will be saved from your Laptop being stolen.
