How to change the location of My Documents Folder in Windows 7

The My Documents folder is a folder that is attached to each user account in Windows 7 or any other Windows operating system. This article gives the procedure to change the location of My Documents folder in Windows 7.


How to change the location of My Documents folder in Windows 7


The My Documents folder is a folder that is attached to each user account in Windows 7 or any other Windows operating system.

The My Documents folder is the default save location for many of the files in Windows 7. The usual location for this folder is in "C:\Users\\Documents" in Windows 7. But it is possible to change the location of this My Documents folder to some other directory or drive in Windows 7.

To move My Documents Folder, please do as follow:

  • Browse to "C:\Users\" using Windows Explorer. Then, right click on 'My Documents' and select 'Properties' as shown in the screen shot given below:

  • Now click on 'Location' tab in the new dialog box as shown in screen shot below:

  • Now click Move which allows you to select the new location for your My Documents folder. Once you have chosen a new location, click OK to confirm the change as shown in the screen shot given below.
