Upgrading in Windows 7

If your version of Windows can be upgraded, select Upgrade to preserve your files, settings and programs. (If your version of Windows can not be upgraded, select the Custom option, which installs a new copy of Windows).

Custom installation

Select Custom to install Windows on the partition you select. This will remove the programs and settings in this partition. It is recommended to save all files and settings you want to keep in order to restore them after installation. You need to reinstall the device drivers and your programs after the installation of Windows 7 complete.

Before all things

Make sure that your current hardware will support Windows 7.On this page you will find a tool called "Upgrade Advisor Windows 7" which, once installed, will tell you whether hardware or software will not Compatible with Windows 7. This tool will give you results for both 32 and 64 bits.

  • If you choose all the same for the upgrade, make sure your current system is up to date, stable and virus free!

  • So install the latest service pack available (SP2).

  • Please upgrade your antivirus and run a full check of your system.

  • Unplug your peripherals (printers, PDA, smart-phones, external drives, etc.)

  • And "Back up your important data" before starting the update procedure!

  • Note

Many cases on the forums show that the update procedure can be complicated, lengthy, not to see succeed. So we can only advise you to choose "Custom".

    Upgrade

  • Turn on the computer so that Windows starts normally (to perform an upgrade, you can not start or "boot" the computer from disk upgrade of Windows 7).

  • Insert the Windows installation disc into your CD or DVD drive. Then
    click on "run setup.exe.

  • On the page that pops up, click Install Now.

  • In the next window, select "Download updates for installation (recommended)".

  • In the page What type of installation do you want?, Click Upgrade.

  • On the next screen, research updates will start and you will get a message confirming successful completion.

  • Accept the license agreement and follow the rest of the procedure is similar to steps described in the "Custom Installation".

  • The leveling process can be shorter or longer depending on the amount of files to back up, and programs to update.

    Windows.old. Warning /!

All your files are saved for the upgrading, the root of your system partition. In a folder C: Windows.old (it's a hidden folder).

  • To make it appear, go to "Organize" -> Folder Options and research. -> Display. -> And check the button "Display files, folders and drives hidden.

  • Once this file is found, make sure you have more files to retrieve, and delete the file using the tool cleaning discs.

  • This file Windows.old may also allow you to uninstall Windows 7 and return to the previous system in case something does not go as planned (or simple choice).

  • So make sure everything works "before" delete this folder!

  • If, against all going well then:
  • Type Cleaning disk drives in the "search" the start menu.

  • Right click on the result, then "run as administrator entant.

  • Select the drive letter C (in general).

  • And select from the list, the line: "Previous Windows installations.

  • then click ok.

  • Custom

Select Custom to install Windows on the partition you select. This will remove the programs and settings in this partition. It is recommended to save all files and settings you want to keep in order to restore them after installation. You need to reinstall the device drivers and your programs after the installation of Windows 7 complete.

Turn on the computer, insert the Windows installation disc and restart the computer. Make sure the pc starts well from the dvd.

This is the first screen that appears:
    w7
  • Once the PC has fully booted from the dvd In the displayed page, click Install Now.

  • Select your region and language settings, then next.

  • The installation program starts.

  • On the "Which type of installation do you want?", Click Custom.

  • On the "Where do you want to install Windows?", Select the disk or partition where you want to install Windows.

  • If you want to create, expand, delete or format a partition (after booting from the Windows installation disc), click Drive options (advanced), you can at this stage, delete, create, reduce, expand, and that format your partitions.

Note also that Windows 7 will automatically create a small partition of about 100MB, it is important to keep this partition.Elle you will need to be able to perform certain tasks in diagnostics and repairs.

Once your partition created, select the partition where Windows is installed, then click Next to begin installation.

The installation program will reboot the computer several times, let it do until the moment has come to enter a username, password, your license number and configure the automatic updates, finally configure the verdict(office).

There you just have to check the functioning of your devices and install the specific drivers, perform updates, install antivirus software, and applications.
