Opera is certainly the best browser among those currently available for mobile phones .In this resource I had discussed the history of opera.

When opera started

Opera is one of the fastest and lightest browsers currently available. It was started in 1994 as a research project in Telenor,a telecom company of Norway. On July 14th 1994 opera was launched for general public by its cofounder Jon von Tetzchner.

Various versions of Opera

Opera series 1 known as MultiTorg opera was not available for the public, and was used for telenor intranet. However Opera series 2 was available for general public too. Series 3 was a huge success worldwide.

Opera 4 was released in March 2000 and it supported CSS2, CSS1, HTML4, XML and WML.This version had an integrated e-mail client available too. Opera series 4 got a mixed response has it had some bugs too. Opera series 5 became quite popular because of features like Mouse gestures, instant messaging and an integrated search.

Opera 6 had new features like Unicode support and new SDI /MDI interface
Opera 7 was released in 2003 and was known as Presto. New feature included in this version were fast forward, notes and slideshow etc. It also had M2 , a news and mail client ,a RSS news reader and an IRC chat client .
Opera 8 was released in 2005 which became very popular for its innovative features and is the most commonly used web browser in mobile phones.
