A Computer name is an identifier which is unique for that computer in a network. This article discusses the procedure on how to set up the computer name and the work group in Windows XP.


Setting up Work group and Computer name in Windows XP


A computer name is a unique identifier in a network. The name of the computer identifies that computer in a network of computers. The procedure to set up a computer name and the work group in Windows XP is given below:

  • Open Control Panel

  • Click on System Icon in Control Panel

  • Now System Properties Windows opens up

  • Click on Change button now and enter the name of the computer

  • Under the Combo Box "Member of", select the radio button labeled Wordk Group and assign the same work group name which is same as that of other computers

  • You will be prompted to restart the computer.
