Internet Connection Sharing in Windows XP

In this article, I am going to tell you how to share the internet connection in windows XP.


Introduction


You have a broadband connection and a network of 2 or more pc. It is interesting to share this broadband connection with others that make up your pc network.In this case, we consider that you already have an Internet connection configured on a PC. We will not get either the setting up of network cards and cabling between the network component pc.

First step - configuring the PC connected to the Internet in Windows XP


The first step is to allow Internet Connection Sharing PC connected directly to the Internet.

  • Open Network properties by right clicking on the icon My Network Places and select Properties from the shortcut menu.

  • In this new window, you should see the different network connections installed on your computer. Then select the connection for your Internet modem.

  • Right click on the icon to display the shortcut menu. Go to Properties.


  • You are now in the Properties window of your Internet connection.

    Open the tab Advanced and select the following options:

  • Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection

  • Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to connect to the Internet

  • Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection

  • Apply your changes by clicking OK and then restart your pc.


  • Second step: configuring client pc in Windows XP


    Right click on the icon My Network Places and select Properties. In the list of network connections select the one corresponding to the network adapter lets you connect to other PC on the network. Make new right-click with your mouse on this icon and select Properties.

  • In the Network Properties window Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP / IP).Enter the IP address of the PC connected to the Internet default gateway as well as preferred DNS server.

  • Do this for each client.

  • If these manipulations do not allow you to log in, follow the next step.

  • In Internet Explorer, click the menu Tools and then Internet Options. In the tab Connections, select Never dial a connection and then click LAN Settings section of the LAN Settings. Then check all boxes are unticked well. Confirm by clicking OK.
