Configuring Wi-Fi in Windows XP

In this article I am going to tell you how to configure a WI-FI Wireless network connection in windows XP using the using the wireless network manager.


This article explains how to configure a Wi-Fi using the wireless network manager for Windows XP.

Pre-Requirements

1 - Your computer must be equipped with a Wi-Fi hardware interface that can take the form:

  • a Wi-Fi capability, especially in the case of laptops;

  • It is imperative that this function is activated.

  • This activation is as if through a combination of keys on the keyboard or via a specific button.

  • An indicator on the computer you usually indicates whether the Wi-Fi is enabled or not.

  • For more information on the presence of a Wi-Fi capabilities on your computer or activation, please consult the manufacturer's documentation provided with it.

  • This device must be physically connected and installed the driver provided.

  • 2 - The Wi-Fi modem Numericable must be enabled.

    3 - You need information from Wi-Fi (SSID and WEP key) on your modem.

    Configuring Wi-Fi

    1- Click "Start"and select "Connections" then "Wireless Network Connection".

    2- The window " Wireless Network Connection " appears.

    3-Select from the list "Choose a wireless network," the network "NUMERICABLE-XXXX", or SSID, for your modem.

    4-Click on "Login".

    5-Wait a few moments during the attempt to connect to selected network.

    6-Windows detects whether the wireless security is enabled. If so, it prompts you for required information.

    7-In the "Network key" box, enter the WEP key specific to your modem.

    8-In the "Confirm network key",re-enter the WEP key.

    9-Click on "Login".

    10-Wait a few moments during the establishment of the connection.

    11-The network "NUMERICABLE - XXXX" now appears in the status "Connected".

    12-Click the X to close the window.

    13-Your wireless connection is now functional, you can enjoy the Internet connection of your modem Numericable.
